Little Vienna of the XVIIIth century, as it was one of the most beautiful towns of south-eastern Europe, the town of gardens and roses, as it is called due to the abundance of green areas which lay all along the Bega Cannel and all over the town, Timisoara is not only one of the biggest towns of Romania, having more than 400.000 inhabitants, but also a cultural and university town with tradition, the four universities of Timisoara welcoming every year almost 30.000 Romanian and foreign students.
The University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Timisoara, founded in 1945, has trained till now more than 11.000 students,
2.000 of them being foreign students. At the moment, in the 2 buildings which shelter amphitheaters and laboratories,
as well as in the 15 hospitals which host many
university clinics, study approximately 3.500 Romanian and foreign students, enrolled in the 3 faculties:
Faculty of General Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of
Pharmacy, or in the College of Dental Technique.
The presence among the staff and among the leaders of medical personalities well known both nationally and internationally, has contributed and continues to contribute to the fame of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Timisoara as a prestigious institution both in the country and abroad, this being confirmed by the many collaborations with Romanian and foreign universities.
