Starting from December 1998, CIEA offers all members of the academic community of UMFT the possibility of having a 2 MB e-mail box on the ciea.umft.ro server.
You can obtain such an account free of charge. All you have to do is fill in a form an hand it in to one of the network administrators (room 211, UMFT main building) together with a paper proving your being an academic staff member (certificate from the secretariat), a student (stamped student notebook with registration number), a resident (your confirmation citation) or a doctorate attendant (a certificate from the secretariat). The form can be obtained from CIEA. The account is made by the electronic mail server administrator on the spot (if possible) or at most in 24 hours. The "client" can choose his/her own account’s name and password.
You can access the e-mail server either through the World Wide Web (the address of the page is told you when the account is created) or through any POP3 client (Netscape Messenger or Outlook Express, for example). In case of accessing it through a POP3 client, the "incoming (POP3) server" and "outgoing (SMTP) server" fields must be filled in with "ciea.umft.ro".
The users of our e-mail service benefit from a lot of advanced opportunities to configure their personal account through e-mail, as: changing the password, specifying a forward address. The people who already have an e-mail account can create (in motivated situations) private or public, moderate or not moderate mailing lists, with the help of the ciea.umft.ro server administrator. Any person who has an e-mail account (at CIEA or elsewhere) and who is accepted by the owners of the mailing lists can subscribe to these mailing lists.
Each message is protected by the server, so a high level of confidentiality is provided. The server is configured to try to send the message in at most 1 minute from its reception; our tests have shown that it takes 4 minutes for a message to get to the free e-mail servers from USA and back, in the conditions of a medium traffic (the speed is up to 1K/s). This way we assure the accomplishment of the e-mail’s invention purpose: the highest speed of transmission from all the means of written communication. In case of any error in the address, the sender is informed by the server in 60 minutes from the discovery of the error. If the recipient’s server can’t receive the message on the spot, the message is saved on the server and they will try to send it once every 4 hours for five days. If the message can’t be sent during the 5 days (it happens only in case of error in the recipient’s address) the message is canceled by the server and an error message is sent to the sender’s mailbox.
