Program
Objectives
This seminar provides the development of the surgeons' technical skills
in performing microvascular anastomosis in vessels and nerves in the
living tissue (rat).

description
This
is a four day seminar. Each day, the early mornings are spent with lectures
about microsurgical techniques with particular interest to clinical
use. After practical instruction has been given at the microscope, about
micro-instruments and suture handling techniques, the course provides
a total of 32 hours for evaluating all types of anastomotic techniques
in alive animal model (Sprague-Dawley rats). The daily program is structured
as follows:
1st
day morning:
Suture techniques on latex
1st
day evening:
Suture techniques on femoral vessels in a chicken
leg model
2nd day morning:
Artery end-to-end
2nd
day evening:
Vein end-to-end
3rd day morning:
Vein graft
3rd
day evening:
Artery end-to-side
Official Dinner
4th day morning:
Nerve suturing techniques (e.g. epi-perineural, interfascicular, nerve
grafts) on the sciatic nerve in a chicken leg model.
Every
participant will have his own practice table equipped
with microscope, instruments and suture material and will perform the
foreseen exercises under the supervision of 1 instructor with experience
in microsurgery, for 8 hours training/day, three and a half days long)
