The Clinic of Dental Ergonomics and Oro-Dental Diagnosis plays an essential role in the early training of future dental practitioners, being integrated into the curriculum of the Faculty of Dental Medicine since the 2004–2005 academic year, in accordance with European standards of medical education.
In the first semester, the discipline is taught to second-year students, both in the Romanian-language and English-language sections, under the titles Ergonomie dentară/ERGONOMICS and Diagnostic oro-dentar/ORO-DENTAL DIAGNOSIS. During the same semester, sixth-year students from both sections may attend the optional course Organizarea activității în cabinetele dentare /ACTIVITIES ORGANIZATION IN DENTAL OFFICES, which complements their training in the fields of administration and professional organization.
In the second semester, dental ergonomics is included in the study programs of Dental Technology (third year) and Dental Prophylaxis Assistance (third year), through the discipline Ergonomics. Dental Office Management.
The discipline of Oro-Dental Diagnosis aims to develop a unified perspective on the clinical evaluation process, to enhance patient communication skills, and to ensure the correct acquisition of examination techniques – fundamental elements for establishing an accurate diagnosis and an effective treatment plan.
The discipline of Dental Ergonomics places particular emphasis on adapting the working environment to the functional requirements of dental practice, with the objective of preventing musculoskeletal injuries, which are frequently encountered as a result of prolonged static postures. Students are trained in optimal working posture, correct positioning of both patient and operator, rational use of instruments, appropriate lighting, and the functional design of the dental office. This training extends beyond physical comfort to include cognitive and organizational aspects of professional activity, thereby contributing to increased efficiency, safety, and quality of dental care.
The curriculum of the clinic is continuously updated to ensure that students acquire not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills that become professional reflexes, essential for maintaining the long-term health of the dental practitioner and for carrying out an efficient and sustainable clinical practice.
Teaching activities take place both in the discipline’s own facilities and in shared spaces with other specialties, ensuring the integration of dental ergonomics and oro-dental diagnosis within the real context of modern dental practice.
