Description
One of the ways in which the “Victor Babeș” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timișoara, as an institution of education, science and culture, aims to fulfil its mission, as set out in the University Charter, is through the promotion of medical and pharmaceutical scientific research. Furthermore, integration into the European scientific community is a goal that UMFVBT, through the Vice-Rectorate for Scientific Research, intends to achieve as soon as possible.
Research activities are carried out in all the departments and faculties of our university, and financial support is provided, for the most part, through grants or research contracts. We aim for applied research that benefits society, which would translate into the development of patents with material/financial benefits for the university.
The Vice-Rector for Scientific Research coordinates, guides, supervises and is responsible for all scientific research activities; coordinates the evaluation of the scientific performance of teaching and research staff; and has direct e over the Department of Research and Grant Management, as well as the Department for the Dissemination of Scientific Research Results.
The main objectives of the Vice-Rectorate for Scientific Research are to carry out research programmes with direct implications for strengthening the knowledge society by modernising and improving the efficiency of the material infrastructure for scientific research within the university. Encouraging researchers to focus their efforts primarily on topics where there is a good chance of securing funding will help to stimulate the diversification of forms of participation in scientific research activities, both with national funding bodies and international organisations, as well as to the development of research infrastructure through funds attracted on the basis of projects funded by various bodies. Strengthening the activities of the Advanced Research Centres and the Methodological and Research Centres, and establishing centres of excellence with the support of academic staff and the Doctoral School, will also foster the development of research skills among students. Involving students in tackling various topics, engaging them in research activities, and organising international symposia and conferences under the auspices of professional bodies or in collaboration with other universities abroad will contribute to their professional development.
