Name of the research center: The Center for Genomic Medicine

Director of the research center: Professor Maria PUIU

Date of establishment/ acknowledgement: 05.03.2021

Research areas/ research opportunities:

The Center for Genomic Medicine was established with the help of a grant obtained from the SECTORAL OPERATIONAL PROGRAM “INCREASING ECONOMIC COMPETITIVENESS” PRIORITY AXIS 2 -co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, in 2015.

The Center for Genomic Medicine integrates interdisciplinary expertise in various medical specialties (neurology, psychiatry, cardiology, ophthalmology, nephrology, oncology, hematology, nutrition and diabetes, metabolic diseases, endocrinology), advances the molecular characterization of human disease, identification or validation of molecular targets for new, as well as innovative therapies.

The technological platforms of the Center allow research advancement in the post-genomic era, offering a paralleled approach for the development of new therapies in genetic or multifactorial diseases.

The Center for Genomic Medicine aims to be integrative for multiple fields. The areas of interest research are the result of previous collaborations and include: rare diseases, immunodeficiencies, rare cancers, identification of risk factors in obesity, personalized therapy, nutrigenomics, cardiogenetics, pharmacogenetics, etc.).

The Center for Genomic Medicine addresses different human disorders in collaboration with experienced researchers (in the clinics and the laboratories),  with the help of state of the art equipment, supported by a large existing Biobank of DNA.
