Name of the research center: Center for Research and Multidisciplinary Management in Pediatric Surgical Conditions

Director of the research center: Prof. Univ. Dr. Iacob Emil Radu

Date of establishment/ acknowledgement: 29.04.2026

Research areas/ research opportunities:

The Center for Research and Multidisciplinary Management in Pediatric Surgical Conditions is an academic and scientific structure dedicated to the development of clinical, experimental, and translational research in the field of pediatric surgical pathology. The center aims to create an integrative framework for collaboration among the medical and surgical specialties involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of pediatric surgical disorders, contributing to the improvement of healthcare quality and the advancement of evidence-based medicine.

The center’s activity is focused on the multidisciplinary approach to pediatric surgical diseases, bringing together specialists in pediatric surgery, pediatric anesthesia and intensive care, medical imaging, neonatology, pediatrics, pathology, medical genetics, epidemiology, and rehabilitation medicine. Through this interdisciplinary collaboration, the center seeks to develop modern diagnostic and therapeutic protocols adapted to the biological and pathophysiological particularities of pediatric patients.

The main research directions include the study of congenital malformations, neonatal surgical pathology, pediatric surgical emergencies, minimally invasive surgery, pediatric oncologic surgery, reconstructive surgery, as well as the perioperative and postoperative management of critically ill children. Furthermore, the center aims to evaluate the impact of new technologies and surgical techniques on patient prognosis and quality of life.

An important objective of the center is the promotion of translational research by correlating the results of fundamental research with current clinical practice. In this regard, the center focuses on studies involving biomarkers associated with pediatric surgical disorders, inflammatory and tissue regeneration mechanisms, and the optimization of personalized therapeutic strategies. Research activities are supported through national and international collaborations with academic institutions, hospitals, and prestigious research centers.

The center also aims to develop educational and professional training activities for students, medical residents, PhD candidates, and researchers through the organization of workshops, courses, conferences, and interdisciplinary research projects. In this way, the center seeks to stimulate interest in medical research and to train a new generation of specialists capable of integrating clinical and scientific knowledge into the management of pediatric surgical disorders.

Through its activities, the center contributes to strengthening academic and scientific excellence in the field of pediatric surgery and to increasing the international visibility of Romanian medical research, with the ultimate goal of improving healthcare and prognosis for children with complex surgical conditions.
