General presentation

Pharmaceutical Chemistry aims to study the medicinal substances used in therapy, in terms of methods of obtention, physico-chemical properties, pharmacological properties and chemical structure – biological activity relationships, as well as the design and obtaining of new chemical structures with potential pharmacological effect.

Within the discipline of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, the knowledge acquired by students in fundamental disciplines such as inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and physical chemistry are used, and the new notions aquired will be further used by students, for the study of specialized disciplines such as pharmacology and toxicology.

Within the discipline of Pharmaceutical Chemistry was included, starting with the academic year 2021-2022, the discipline of Biochemistry. The Biochemistry discipline aims to provide the necessary information for understanding the biochemical processes that take place in the human body, the relationships between them and the mechanisms of action, at the cellular level of drugs.

The educational offer includes the following compulsory courses and practical works:

  • Pharmaceutical chemistry – IIIrd year, study programs Pharmacy and Pharmacy (in French)
  • Therapeutic chemistry – IVth year, study programs Pharmacy and Pharmacy (in French)
  • Pharmaceutical biochemistry – IIIrd year, study programs Pharmacy and Pharmacy (in French)
  • Therapeutic chemistry – IInd year, study program Pharmacy Assistance (in Lugoj)
  • Descriptive and metabolic biochemistry – IInd year study program Pharmacy Assistance (in Lugoj)
  • Chemistry of cosmetic and pharmaceutical ingredients – IInd year, study program Medical Cosmetics and Cosmetic Product Technology
  • Notions of biochemistry – IInd year, study program Medical Cosmetics and Cosmetic Product Technology
Research topics

The research activity of the discipline members focuses mainly on the optimization of the pharmacological properties of natural and synthetic substances with biological activity, as follows:

  1. Synthesis and physico-chemical evaluation of some synthetic and semisynthetic compounds, with antimicrobial and anticancer activity
  2. Obtaining and analysis of nanostructures and complexes with cyclodextrins of biological active substances with potential antitumor action
  3. Physico-chemical analysis and pharmacological profile of some biological active substances
