General presentation

Department VI of Cardiology brings together three fundamental components of cardiovascular medicine: the University Clinic of Cardiology II, the University Clinic of Cardiovascular Surgery, and the University Outpatient Clinic of Internal Medicine, Prevention, and Cardiovascular Rehabilitation.

This integrated structure enables a comprehensive approach to the cardiovascular patient, ranging from prevention and early diagnosis to complex interventional and surgical treatments, followed by long-term monitoring and rehabilitation.

As contemporary cardiology extends beyond the boundaries of a single specialty, the department promotes a multidisciplinary, patient-centered model that integrates advanced clinical and imaging assessment, interventional cardiology, minimally invasive and conventional cardiovascular surgery, as well as preventive strategies and long-term management of chronic cardiovascular diseases.

The department consistently supports the modernization of infrastructure and medical practice through the implementation of state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic technologies — including advanced cardiovascular imaging, high-performance echocardiography, complex interventional procedures, and innovative surgical techniques — as well as through the development of clinical research in the field of cardiovascular diseases.

From an academic perspective, Department VI of Cardiology plays a fundamental role in the professional training of medical students and resident physicians, providing a structured educational framework based on the integration of theoretical instruction with clinical practice. Students benefit from exposure to a wide and complex spectrum of cardiovascular pathology, participation in supervised clinical activities, and involvement in scientific research, thereby contributing to the development of professional competencies and critical thinking skills.
