General presentation

As part of the Department of Pediatrics, the 2nd Pediatrics Clinic is led by Prof. Dr. Liviu Pop. Founded in 1974, it is established as an external clinic of ²Pius Brânzeu²Emergency County Clinical Hospital, Timișoara. The 2nd Pediatric Clinic is set to improve child care and also to expand the field of pediatric education.  

The basis of clinical care, education and research includes:

Pediatric subspecialties:

  • Pediatric PneumologyUnit (coordinated byAssociate Professor IoanaCiuca) 
  • Pediatric Gastroenterology Unit (coordinated byProfessorLiviu Pop)
  • Pediatric EndocrinologyUnit (coordinated by Associate Professor Corina Paul)
  • Pediatric Cardiology Unit (Coordinated by Assistant Professor Adrian Lacatusu)

The clinic includes several pediatric subspecialties: Pediatric Gastroenterology (Assistant Professor CorinaPienar), Pediatric Endocrinology (Associate Professor Corina Paul), Neonatology (Assistant Professor Tănăsescu), Pediatric Nephrology (Assistant Professor IonelaTămăsan), Genetics (with emphasis on cystic fibrosis), Pediatric Intensive Care and the National Cystic Fibrosis Center.

NATIONAL COORDINATING CENTERS:

  • National Cystic Fibrosis Center (accredited in 2006) and authorized by the Ministry of Health as a European Reference Center (2016) – coordinated byProfessorLiviu Pop
  • Regional Center for Continuous Glycemic Monitoring of Children with Type 1 Diabetes (accredited in 2018) – coordinated byProfessorIulianVelea
  • Training of resident physicians in Pediatrics, Pediatric Pneumology, Pediatric Gastroenterology
  • Coordinating the activity of the Students’ Pediatric Interest Group

SPECIALIZED EVALUATION UNITS:

  • Digestive endoscopy, Esophageal Impedance and pH-metry, Abdominal Ultrasound and Ultrasound-based Elastography- training center for Pediatric Gastroenterology residents
  • Functional and imaging examinations of the respiratory system (basal and induced ventilometric tests, clearance tests, pulmonary ultrasound), Pediatric Pulmonologytraining center for resident physicians
  • Center for Genetic, Metabolic and Nutritional Diseases in Children (accreditation from 2001)
  • Master’s degree in “Clinical and Community Nutrition”

Research offer for students and masters: genetic pathology (with emphasis on cystic fibrosis), Pediatric Pneumology (pneumonia, asthma, pulmonary ultrasound, chronic respiratory pathology), nutrition diseases (primarily diabetes and obesity), Pediatric Endocrinology (thyroid and growth disorders in children), Pediatric Cardiology (cardiac malformations), Pediatric Gastroenterology, Pediatric Nephrology (infectious pathology, chronic kidney disease), Neonatology (neonatal infections).
