NEUROPSYCOG – Main research directions

1.The introduction of extra-transcranial Doppler ultrasound in the evaluation of cognitive dysfunction due to small vascular disease, by correlating hemodynamic indices (PI, RI, cerebrovascular reserve) with the results of cognitive tests, such as MMSE, MoCA etc., and with neuroimaging aspects (brain CT scan, brain MRI).

2.The introduction of extra-transcranial Doppler ultrasound in the evaluation of cognitive dysfunction given by large vascular disease, by correlating hemodynamic indices (PI, RI, cerebrovascular reserve) with the results of cognitive tests: MMSE, MoCA etc., and with neuroimaging aspects (brain CT scan, brain MRI).

3.The practical validation of a battery of psychological tests, so as to identify cognitive deficits and, especially, deficits in social cognition, but also to ensure the development of intervention plans in psychiatric disorders (psychotic disorders, affective disorders and dementia).

4.The role of endothelial dysfunction in small cerebral vessel pathology, its diachronic onset, in relation to glomerular and proximal tubular endothelial dysfunction of the nephron in patients with type 2 diabetes, and the correlation of hemodynamic indices provided by transcranial Doppler ultrasonography with different biomarkers of cerebrovascular endothelial dysfunction or of the endothelial glomerular or proximal tubular dysfunction of the nephron.

5.The management of vascular aphasias and the introduction of transcranial magnetic stimulation in the recovery of language disorders in Broca-type aphasias following cerebral infarctions.

The activity of the proposed Research Center aims to create a research-development and innovation infrastructure that should be able to support and facilitate various activities and research directions required for increasing the quality of life of people living with neurological or psychiatric pathologies.
