The University Clinic of Rheumatology at the “Victor Babeș” University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Timișoara was established in the 2026–2027 academic year. It is an academic unit dedicated entirely to rheumatic diseases. Its creation reflects the growing importance of rheumatology in modern medicine and the university’s commitment to high-quality medical education.
Rheumatology deals with the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory, autoimmune and degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue. These include rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, vasculitis, gout and osteoporosis.
Our mission
- Education: training medical students and residents, with a focus on clinical reasoning, multidisciplinary care and evidence-based medicine.
- Clinical care: providing high-quality care to patients with rheumatic diseases, in close connection with our clinical base, the Railway Hospital Rheumatology Ward.
- Research: developing research projects on rheumatic and autoimmune diseases, in collaboration with other disciplines and with centres in Romania and abroad.
